Sujet : We have to establish something

They have scored just 16 goals in eight road stops and allowed 22. They have been blanked twice and have scored the opening goal just once this season, one of those coming in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Dec. 7. And they have but six first-period goals, which is a league-low.

The Canucks have maintained a semblance of competitiveness by being in 11 one-goal games, and a 7-2-2 record in those speaks to that. But playing from behind and playing on their heels when they do shock the world — a 3-0 lead after two periods against the Chicago Blackhawks evaporated in a 4-3 overtime loss — has left them looking at video, looking in the mirror and looking for answers.

“It seems like there are games where we play 50 minutes and … 10 where it shuts down,” said Canucks centre Bo Horvat, who’s tied for the team  lead in goals with six and tied for the league lead with two shorthanded goals.

“We have to take the positives from the first 40 against Chicago and go from there.

“On the wholesale jerseys online road, the first goal is going to be huge. We have to establish something. Teams come out strong in their own rink and we have to counter that.”

One way would be to do something — anything — on the power play.

In a special-teams world, the Canucks are spinning off into another universe with the 26th-ranked power play. They have been blanked in six of eight road games and are 3-for-23. And two man-advantage goals came in one outing on Oct. 22 in Los Angeles. You can also argue the Canucks aren’t doing enough to draw penalties because their net presence is questionable at best.

When the first unit is deployed — Henrik and Daniel Sedin with Brandon Sutter, Alex Edler and Troy Stecher — the best development with a predictable and plodding ploy has been back-door passes to Edler and Ben Hutton on the second unit. But they haven’t converted the sweet feeds.

It also says something about Eriksson not wholesale nfl jerseys being on the first unit and collecting just one power-play goal — shovelling in a rebound against the Blackhawks on Saturday. Ten of his 30 goals last season with the Boston Bruins came on the power play.

“We need more power plays,” said Henrik Sedin, understating the fact.

“A lot of games (nine in total) we’ve had one or two, and it’s not easy. We have enough zone time to be better. And there are times when we just have to put pucks at the net. We’ve had pucks bouncing on the goalline and we’re not getting to rebounds.

“It’s not that we don’t know where guys are or don’t feel like it’s the right setup. We just need to get it going.”

The Canucks could have a different look up front against the Coyotes with Jannik Hansen (rib fracture) and Derek Dorsett (shoulder) on the sidelines.

Winger Joseph LaBate, who had a goal and an assist in four preseason games and impressed with his size and skill, has been  recalled from the Utica Comets, who have had six of their top 10 players injured.
